The generic microcontroller unit (MCU) on Intel® Edison Boards provide real-time peripheral control capabilities for GPIOs, UARTs, and I2C interfaces. The table below shows how fast digital pins (GPIOs) on an Intel® Edison Kit for Arduino* toggle on and off.
 

Note The toggling of the digital pins didn't use delays or sleeps of any sort. Digital pins were toggled on and off individually by the MCU.
