    Description

Due to a problem in the Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard Edition Software version 17.0 and later, you may see this error when you try to upgrade the Altera Unique Chip ID through the menu Project > Upgrade IP.

    Resolution

To work around this problem, add Altera Unique Chip ID IP from the IP list and make sure you use the same instance name as the current IP.

When upgrading the design, follow the flow as above.

If building any design that uses Altera Unique Chip ID from Intel® Quartus® Prime Standard Edition software versions 17.0 to 18.1, you can use qsys to add in the IP and save it as qsys file. This will force us to use new infrastructure, and this problem will not happen.
